Bay Farm’s sixth-grade students presented their Independent Learning Projects (ILPs) to fellow students and parents this week. The ILP is a year-long research project which incorporates many forms of gathering information and culminates in a research paper, a dynamic PowerPoint presentation, and a colorful brochure on their topic. The students picked a wide range of topics to research this year, including puppy mills, the environmental impact hikers have on Mt. Everest, dolphins, horse sanctuaries, and YouTube advertising. Classmates supported each other throughout the year by sharing information about their topic whenever they came across information, listening to them practice, reading papers, and giving constructive feedback.
