Wednesday, September 14, 2016

September 21, 2016…Duxbury, MA…Today, the students and staff at Bay Farm Montessori Academy observed the International Day of Peace with a ceremony held around the Peace Pole on the Bay Farm campus.  Students in grades 4-6 recited quotes and famous sayings about peace from well-known people.  The middle school students presented on the Nobel Peace Prize.

This year, all Bay Farm students (pre-school through grade 8) participated in Sing Peace Around the World and sang Light a Candle for Peace along with children around the world.  Over 125,000 children from 65 countries sang the song at different times during the 24 hours of September 21st.  The singing began in New Zealand and continued from country to country until it reached the Hawaiian Islands.  For 24 hours, the voices of the children sang for peace.

The United Nations’ International Day of Peace is marked every year on September 21.  It is a global holiday when individuals, communities, nations, and governments highlight efforts to end conflict and promote peace.  Peace education is an important part of Montessori education.
