Bay Farm’s middle school students are participating in a service learning project at Carolina Hill, a transitional shelter located in Marshfield for homeless families. For three months, our students are doing various tasks designated by the shelter’s director to help the families there. Duties include cleaning, grounds keeping, redecorating the common areas for the upcoming holidays, and even playing with the children that live there!
Students are a part of a caring community at Bay Farm. Our older students enjoy being mentors and role models, and our younger children feel supported when mentored by an older student. Younger children learn more readily from their peers, both academically and socially. This week, the sixth years visited the ELI students in their classroom, guiding and helping them with their work.
Bay Farm's Special Persons' Day is next Tuesday, November 22nd. This "special" day is a half day set aside for our students to invite relatives/friends to Bay Farm so that they can experience the Montessori environment and enjoy some of our students' classroom activities.
We hope all of our students will invite their special people. You can download an invitation to Special Persons' Day here which your child can give to his/her special person.
Please note that if your child does not typically attend Bay Farm on a Tuesday, we still hope s/he will attend with their special person. The children simply arrive and leave with their special person.
Our students will be visiting the Book Fair with their classrooms on Monday, November 21st. You can help to increase money that goes back to Bay Farm (from 20% to 29%) by purchasing a Barnes & Noble gift card through SCRIP.
Ordering your child’s Barnes & Noble gift certificate from SCRIP is easy:
- Fill out the SCRIP order form with desired gift certificate amount ($10 increments).
- Attach a check made out to BFMA MPA or pay with cash.
- Return it to the parent mailbox or the main office by Friday, November 18th.
- We will deliver your child’s gift certificate to his/her teacher for their Book Fair visit!
If you do not wish to participate in the SCRIP program, please send in money for your child to buy a book. Money should be in a zip-lock bag, labeled with your child’s name, and marked with the amount in the bag. Checks are also accepted, and volunteers will be available to write the amount out for your child.
#GivingTuesday is a global day dedicated to giving to and supporting each other. It follows the widely recognized shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the charitable season. On #GivingTuesday, November 29th, we hope you will support Bay Farm to the best of your ability. Donations made on Giving Tuesday will be matched up to $30,000! We need your help to be successful!

The Bay Farm Science Fair runs from Tuesday, November 29th to Friday, December 2nd. We are seeking volunteers to help. Please consider volunteering to judge for the Science Fair. Elementary I, Elementary II, and Middle School classrooms all need volunteers. "Science backgrounds" are not required. Any amount of your time is truly appreciated. This is not competitive, but rather to provide constructive feedback for the students. If you are able to volunteer, please click here or email Susan Moran at firstname.lastname@example.org.
