In this post, we delve into the delightful realm of toddler snack ideas, focusing on nutritious options and the empowering experience of involving toddlers in snack preparation. Discover how these simple yet engaging activities not only nourish their bodies but also nurture their growing independence and confidence.

No Bake Energy Bites

  • What you will need: 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1 cup old fashioned oats, one teaspoon vanilla extract, 2/3 cup toasted shredded coconut, ½ cup chocolate chips, 1/3 cup honey, ½ cup ground flaxseed, 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
  • Prep: Place all of the ingredients in separate bowls for toddlers to add them into a big mixing bowl.
  • How your toddler can help: pour the ingredients into a bigger bowl and help mix all of them together.

Once everything is mixed together, put the mixture in the refrigerator for 10 to 20 minutes. This will make it easier to roll the mixture into balls. After the mixture has firmed up, take it out and begin to roll small balls. Your toddler might be able to help you with this, too. Store the finished Energy Bites in a sealed container.

Ants on a Log

  • What you will need: celery, peanut butter, raisins, a plate, and a child-safe knife or spreader.
  • Instructions: Cut up the celery into 3-4 inch pieces and put it on their plate. Put peanut butter and raisins into separate small bowls.
  • How your toddler can help: Have them spread the peanut butter onto the celery stick and place raisins on top of the peanut butter. They can clean up their plate in the dishwasher when they are finished with the snack.

Yogurt Parfait

  • What you will need: celery, peanut butter, raisins, a plate, and a child-safe knife or spreader.
  • Instructions: Cut the celery into 3-4-inch pieces and put it on their plate. Put peanut butter and raisins into separate small bowls.
  • How your toddler can help: Have them spread the peanut butter onto the celery stick and place raisins on top of the peanut butter. They can clean up their plate in the dishwasher when they are finished with the snack.

Apple Smiles

  • What you will need: Apples, Peanut butter (or any nut butter or peanut-free butter), mini marshmallows, a spreader, and two small bowls.
  • Instructions:  Slice the apples or help the child with an apple slicer. Put your nut butter of choice in two small bowls and mini marshmallows in the other.
  • How your toddler can help: Have the child spread the nut butter on the apple slices and then place marshmallows on top.

Fruit Kabobs

  • What you’ll need: Any fruit you have on hand, skewers, or straws.
  • How toddlers can help: Toddlers can help cut the fruit with a parent’s help. They can also put the fruit onto a skewer or straw. This is a great activity to help strengthen fine motor skills. Optional: some fruits can be cut into fun shapes. Your child can use a cookie cutter to cut the shapes.

Nutella French Toast Roll-Ups

  • What you’ll need: White bread, strawberries, Nutella, sugar, butter, egg, milk, and salt
  • Prep: The strawberries should be diced up small. Crusts should be removed from the bread. Spread sugar out into a small dish. Make an egg mixture by whisking one large egg with 2 tbsp of milk and a pinch of salt.
  • How your toddler can help: Toddlers can use a rolling pin to flatten the bread. After the bread is flat, the child can use a butter knife or spreader to spread Nutella onto the slices. They can sprinkle strawberries into the Nutella. With the help of a parent, they can roll the bread up tightly.
Instructions: Melt butter in a pan. Put each sandwich roll up in the egg mixture; shake off the excess, then place in pan. Cook and rotate them for about 4 minutes or until golden brown. Immediately after taking them out of the pan, roll them in sugar.

Breakfast Bark:

  • What you’ll need: Parchment paper, two cookie sheets, Granola, Vanilla Greek Yogurt, and assorted berries.
  • Instructions: First, line your cookie sheet with parchment paper so that your bark does not stick. In a bowl, have your toddler help you pour 1⁄2 cup of granola and 2 cups of yogurt.
  • How your toddler can help: Your toddler can help you to stir the granola and yogurt together. Next, have your child add assorted berries (whole or cut) in to the mixture. They can help to stir the mixture with the berries. Now pour and spread 1⁄2 of the yogurt mixture onto the lined cookie sheet. Put your cookie sheet in the freezer for 2 hours. After this time, remove from the freezer and break apart the bark. Save any remaining bark in the freezer.
